Urban conflagration refers to fast-moving fire spreading through densely populated areas. Technosylva’s Urban Conflagration model, including Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) fuels and Dynamic Building Loss Factor (dBLF), predicts structure-to-structure spread and building loss once fire has entered developed areas.
From an ignition point, fire spreads across the landscape according to wildland fire behavior models. Upon reaching community boundaries, Technosylva’s model transitions to an urban fire spread model that incorporates (WUI) and urban fuel characteristics. This urban model characterizes Rate of Spread (ROS), fire encroachment distance into developed areas, and the potential for urban conflagration.
Technosylva’s Urban Conflagration model is trained on over 100 fires in the WUI.
