Population Impacted/Threatened

Population Impacted/Threatened refers to the total population estimated to be impacted or threatened by a simulation footprint. The accuracy of this metric is data source dependent.

Population count in Technsosylva products is typically sourced from LandScan data from Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). LandScan models a daily average capturing the full potential activity space of people throughout the course of the day and night, rather than just residential locations. The estimated population accounts for different population types (such as commercial, residential, and institutional) but does not break them out separately.

The raster data currently utilized by Technosylva models (LandScan 2021 night population) has a spatial resolution of approximately 90m with each cell reflecting the estimated population of that area.
