Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF)

Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) is a numerical weather prediction model developed through a collaborative effort led by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). It is widely used in both operational forecasting and atmospheric research due to its flexibility across a broad range of spatial scales and environmental conditions.

WRF simulates atmospheric dynamics by solving equations governing airflow, temperature, moisture, and other physical processes across a defined grid. It can be configured at high spatial resolution to resolve local terrain effects, wind channeling, and other features that coarser models miss, which makes it particularly well suited to wildfire weather forecasting in complex landscapes.
