Urban Conflagration (UC) Model September/October 2026

Overview

Technosylva is rolling out updates to the Urban Conflagration (UC) model across the wildfire product suite. The UC model improves how fire spread is represented in urban and built environments, helping users better understand potential impacts where wildland fire transitions into communities. See our Fuels Glossary for a detailed list of new Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) fuel types added to more accurately represent the range of conditions found in WUI environments.

This release focuses primarily on the UC model update. Dynamic Building Loss Factor (dBLF) is being treated as a separate phased enhancement and will be rolled out later in some products.

The UC model may produce different fire footprint, acreage, and building impact results than previous model versions, especially in urban environments. These differences are expected and reflect the updated model’s improved representation of urban fire spread.

The introduction of UC may increase the number of buildings impacted. dBLF may increase the estimated number of buildings destroyed, but will not change the estimated number of buildings impacted.

Product Impact

UC availability depends on the product and customer environment. The model update must be enabled or incorporated for each applicable product/customer instance before end users can access it.

Wildfire Operations is expected to use UC as the default model once enabled. UC will update FireSim behavior and later FireRisk behavior as product dependencies are completed.
