These settings are intended to detect smaller abnormalities that might not trip standard protection systems and allow for proactive power shutoffs when potential problems are detected. EPSS is typically activated during high fire-risk conditions, often in combination with Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) for the most extreme conditions.
